Gascoyne/Pilbara Odyssey

When it comes to the Pilbara landscape there are icons and there are icons. The usual icons are those pushed to the general public in cars and coaches or those towing caravans.

Think Karijini and its gorges. Spectacular no doubt – if you don’t mind sharing them with the masses and camping behind bollards.

Rest assured, Campfire Escapes’ icons are far removed from the usual.

They are more remote and harder to get to, and in most cases where we are on station tracks, no other vehicles are seen for days. In our book the journey there is as iconic as the destination.

So for our Gascoyne/Pilbara odyssey in July 2024 we’ll be crossing major river beds, scaling ranges, (You won’t take your 4WD higher in WA.) exploring station tracks to fantastic indigenous art and traversing trackless river beds for kilometres to stunning campsites nestled beside waterholes at the foot of towering red rock cliffs.

All our campsites are bush campsites with no bollards and no facilities. Bush dunnies and showers are the go. Self sufficiency an absolute necessity.

But for all that you will have the security of travelling with guides with over 45 years experience in remote 4wd travel. That means the logistics, comms, medical and emergency support, mechanical and navigation are all taken care of.

Which leaves you free to immerse yourself in this spectacular part of Western Australia – where all you have to think about is ‘What’s for dinner?’ and ‘Is there enough memory in the camera for all the pics you’ll want to take?’

Throughout the trip we’ll take a stack of photos to send to you at journey’s end to share with family and friends. And not forgetting our famous Mad Hatter’s dinner party to be held en route.

Wildflower Photography Escape

You would think that wildflowers and cameras were the perfect match, but how often does that broad, blazing sweep of colour that stops you in your tracks, translate into ‘Ho-hum’ on the bigger screen? Out of focus, shadows everywhere, composition lacking.

It’s out there, in the moment that hints and tips from a professional photographer can bring you up to speed and help you produce images that ‘pop’ and inspire on screen or even framed on your wall.

Enter Campfire Escapes with an opportunity to help you produce images you’ll be proud of.

On Thursday the 29th of August we’ll be venturing into the best of the Midwest for four days of photographic bliss in a landscape full of grandeur and promise to bring out the photographer in all of us.

You’ll be camped under the stars, warmed by the campfire and the company of like-minded happy snappers as we review the day’s effort on the big screen.

All you need is your camera, your 4WD and your sense of adventure (and maybe enough nibbles to sustain yourself for four days in the bush).
