The cold is nearly on its way out and warmer weather is fast approaching. It’s time to give your 4×4 or camper trailer some much-needed attention. The hectic Australian winters can take their toll on our cars, which means that when the cold weather subsides, we need to give our vehicles some serious TLC.
You want your heavy-duty 4×4 to be in tip-top shape to ensure it’s in peak driving condition. We have a few tips to help.
Spring Clean Your 4WD
The interior of your car hasn’t been able to breathe properly since the start of winter, so now is a good time to air it out. Give it a thorough spring clean and get into and under the mats, vacuum, deodorise, and replace the wiper blades. Top up any engine fluids and replace the oil if need be. If you need to, hire a steam cleaner and get into the nitty-gritty of cleaning the seats and footwells.
Remove the Frost from Your Electronics
You may be wondering what that means. Well, it’s quite simple really. With a 4×4 there’s a good chance you haven’t used half the awesome electronics in the car because they’re largely for outback or wilderness use and you’ve been indoors most of the season. Removing the frost from them means switching them on and getting them back into the swing of things. You should also take your car out for a drive and put it through its paces, using all the gadgets inside. It’s always good to see that they’re all still in working order.
Invest in a 4WD Snorkel
If you’re going to the outback to enjoy some serious terrain driving, you may want to invest in a safari snorkel. Check Brakes & Pressure
It’s a good idea to have your brakes checked when you’re having your tyre and tyre pressure evaluated. They’re the most important safety system of your car and regularly checking the discs or drums is essential no matter where you’re going. If you’re doing a hectic terrain drive, your brakes will certainly be put through their paces, so get them checked and changed if required.
Get Organised
Prepare your packing in such a way that everything is easy to access at a moment’s notice. It’s a good idea to purchase a drawer system, tailor-fitted to the back of your car. That way you can easily pack whatever you need, without stuffing the car full of essentials, and then losing them in the chaos. Consider how best to pack breakables and where you should put any emergency supplies for medical or vehicle use.
Wheel Alignment
Given the fact that you’re going off road, it’s a good idea to have your wheel alignment sorted. Hitting a few potholes during the slippery winter season is guaranteed to have taken their toll on your vehicle. Having your alignment set straight just before spring sets in will get you off to an excellent camping trip, where you don’t have to fight with your steering to keep you safely on the road.
